Dream Master

Three Dream Master screens on phones: the diary, today, and a mood entry

Dream Master started as a simple AI-powered dream interpretation app. My challenge was to evolve it into something more meaningful: a self-awareness tool that users could return to regularly, not just after vivid dreams.

The Chatbot Cliché

1

There are dozens of AI apps that interpret dreams. The problem isn't access to AI, it's the experience around it: most offer nothing beyond novelty.

2

They all feel the same, and nothing suggests the app understands, or even remembers, the user. It's not a product. It's a one-time trick.

Another chatbotAn interpretation as one block of generic text.

Two chatbot dream interpretations, each a long single block of text

As I explored ways to solve this, I kept thinking: just because it's AI, it doesn't have to feel like AI.

Dream insightsEach symbol with its own short insight.

Not a wall of textThe same kind of dream as one block.

A dream insight card: a quote from the dream, Lost in the Forest, above the symbol The House and what it may mean A chatbot interpretation filling the screen with a single paragraph

Story cardsTap through each symbol, like fragments of a personal narrative.

Story cards prototype

Most AI dream apps look like a rushed chatbot wrapped in minimal UI. I gave Dream Master a clear visual identity that felt warm, personal, and intentional: cozy illustrations, soft strokes, and calm typography.

User Value

1

Most dream apps begin and end with one interaction: write down your dream, get an interpretation. Once the novelty wears off, users stop opening the app.

2

Once the interpretation is read, there's nothing to build on: no history, no patterns, no sense of progress.

Reflections

Dream interpretation is just one entry point. Reflections, mood tracking and journaling, complete it, and give users a reason to check in even on days without dreams.

TodayA ritual for dream-heavy and dreamless days.

From Chatbot to Companion

By moving beyond chatbot conventions through structure, mood tracking, journaling, and a strong visual identity, I aimed to create something that felt less like a tool and more like a companion.
